Duration: approximately 30 minutes

Classroom is an exercise series performed by 16 volunteer participants in a room equipped with 16 folding chairs. Participants are led through a sequence of coordinated group formations. Together, they produce 12 seated compositions, each 1 held for 1 minute, with 1 minute in between to reconfigure.

The exercise explores the unfolding social effects of multiple classroom orientations and relational configurations, from standard linear to perpendicular to diagonal to cruciform and concentric formations.

Hand-clasping patterns are added to the evolving patterns of chair directions. A chain of outstretched arms and linked hands superimposes its own lines on the increasingly convoluted floor configurations.

The formations culminate in a communal libation, with half of all arms raised in salutation.
